How we built our own guitar with digital manufacturing technology

1. We purchased an Ibanez guitar to use the pickups, neck and other components, then used the body as a template to reverse engineer where the components and neck would be mounted.

2. Using Solidworks I created the main section of the body and did some customization of where to attach the volume and tone knobs. I also designed custom knobs with our RedEye logo on them.

3. I found an STL file of this great looking mobius shaped geometry.

4. Then I used Magics software by Materialise to merge the two together into one single body. This created a very unique geometry that could only be produced using rapid prototyping technology.

5. The file was ready to be processed for an FDM Titan. I chose to build the body in our Polycarbonate/ABS material, so I knew it would be rugged and durable.

6. After the body was built, we did no finishing other than removing supports. The body was then ready to start assembling the neck, pickups and other components.
